Airport Physical Security Controls and Equipment

Security is a critical component of airport management as airports remain a target of choice for jihadist networks, terrorist groups and other violent individuals. Strong airport security systems maximize the protection of workers, flyers and assets so everyone can feel safer. Many airports have begun incorporating physical security systems from Defenshield, which provides ballistic protection while not looking out of place. For example, Defenshield offers durable bulletproof glass for airports, which can help save lives during threatening situations.

Types of Security Challenges Our Airport Products Are Designed For

Our airport protection solutions are designed for potential acts of terrorism that can occur in public spaces, like airports. Airports are high-traffic areas where terrorist attacks and public shootings are a security risk. Defenshield, Inc. creates protective systems to be unassuming in public areas and protect any law enforcement or security officers involved in active shootings.

Products like the Mobile Defensive Fighting Positions (MDFPs) can be used inside the airport around ticket counters, security lines, exterior entry points and other areas that may encounter security concerns. A ballistic glass section allows security officials to keep watch of the area and act quickly when needed.

The Modular Ballistic Podium is another option for security stations, ticket counters and other airport stations. With integrated shelving, this product offers improved storage, and its modular design allows users to fold and move the podium with ease.

For high-risk areas, Stego® Modular Armor System provides customizable protection for large groups of security personnel. With armor blocks, weapons port blocks and window blocks, personnel have protection from ballistic events, access to weaponry and visibility into the field. The Modular Armor System is best used as an access control system at exterior entry points and along roads.

Low Maintenance and Ease of Use

Defenshield products are designed for high-level protection and ease. The functionality for these products ensures simple breakdown, practical transportation and quick setup. The MDFP, for example, comes with mobility options to suit your needs. Choose from ATV tires, front casters or forklift pockets to handle transport.

The Modular Armor System offers easy construction with standard block sizes and attached detent pins. Blocks can be transported via truck, and a complete system can be rebuilt anywhere within minutes.

Every Defenshield product is manufactured from durable materials that require little maintenance to last for long-term use. Outdoor units have additional protective qualities for withstanding the weather. Breakdown functions and slip footprints also offer easy storage as needed.

Protection Levels

Defenshield products are customizable according to specific security protocols and the end user’s needs, including protection levels. Knowing the possible threats present in an airport is essential to understanding the necessary protection level. Every ballistic protection solution ranges from Level IIIA to Level IV based on the National Institute of Justice (NIJ) 0108.01 Balistic Level protection. Every product includes a ballistic level breakdown to guide product selection.

Level IIIA includes two different ammunition types. It can protect against .44 mag. lead semi-wadcutter gas checked bullets and 9mm full metal jacket ammunition. Level III can protect against 7.62mm full metal jacket ammunition or .308 Winchester bullets.

At Level IV, ballistic products can withstand .30-06 armor-piercing ammunition with nominal masses of 10.8g. This measure is the guaranteed protection level for the Modular Armor System. The Modular Ballistic Podium and MDFP come with a range of ballistic level protection options.

The MDFP DS-190 is independently certified by H.P. White Laboratory, Inc. to satisfy the Level IV requirements. This product also meets the US Department of State standard DS-STD-01.01.

Because trains are such a popular method of travel, there are risks at every train station. Defenshield’s physical security solutions for train stations protect employees and passengers from gun threats. From mobile defensive fighting equipment to ballistic furniture, Defenshield has multiple products that can blend in with the environment while offering reliable protection for guards.

Train Station Safety

Today’s train stations are often at risk with a growing prevalence of terrorist threats, theft and other security issues. In high-risk areas, safety is the first priority, and we offer a variety of protection solutions to help transportation authorities meet the necessary standards.

While transportation ballistic solutions fit airport settings, Defenshield bulletproof security systems can also benefit populated train stations. Combined with careful monitoring and the proper protective gear, bulletproof barriers for airports and train stations can help law enforcement and security personnel secure their stations against violent intruders.

Train Station Physical Security Solutions

Defenshield’s work stations, guard systems and accessories are well-suited for train station security. SafePoint® shield systems offer multipurpose functionality, stopping bullets while serving as convenient desk stations. Shield systems also offer maximum visibility, which is ideal for large train stations with greater volumes of people. Security guards can see everything that’s going on around them through reinforced glass without sacrificing their safety. Other products designed to meet train station security standards range from communication systems to search lights and full glass partitions.
